All our tilt and turn double glazed windows are hinged at the bottom and the side, with a complex mechanism to determine how the window opens. However, the complexity of the mechanism is not reflected in the unit’s operation, which is extremely simple using the single handle. A 90-degree turn of the handle allows the window to be opened fully on the side hinges, in the same way as a conventional casement window except the window opens into the room rather than outwards. Turning the handle 180 degrees means it can be tilted downwards from the bottom hinge.
The clever design of the window enables ventilation when it is tilted open, without compromising security since the window cannot be opened further and access is not possible through the limited opening. This is particularly important if you have small children since it prevents them from falling through the opening.
Fully opening on the side hinges allows the outside pane to be cleaned from the inside of the room, which is great if you’re not keen on climbing ladders to access your upstairs windows. It can also provide rapid access to an effective emergency exit at ground floor level.
